VINTAGE READING HARDWARE ENTRY MORTISE LOCK w/KEY - PUSH BUTTON & IT IS REVERSIBLE (9545). Large and heavy brass faceplate with body of the lock clearly maker marked'RHC' for Reading Hardware of Reading, Pennsylvania, one of America's great manufacturers of builder's hardware during the second half of the 19th & early part of the 20th Century. Brass front plate measures 7" long, 1 1/16" wide, 1/8 thick. From the center of the key cylinder hole to the center of the knob post hole is 3 1/4. Box is 3 1/4" deep from the back of the front plate and it is 5" top to bottom. Screws are on 6 1/4 centers. Step back from the front of the front plate to the center of the knob post hole is 2 5/8. The lock is made for a standard size 5/16 square post with a pivot post. If you are replacing an old lock like this you already have the post. This is a very heavy and quite well made mortise lock.
We have opened it and cleaned it and checked all the springs and fittings. Despite a scratch or two on the faceplate, it actually shows very little use. Very clean inside and out, no rust, functions very well, heavy duty and with keys!
